Muscle Cars

The Shelby Mustang and the 440 Roadrunner are two of the fast cars which were built to satisfy the desire for high performance and speed. There were many more fast cars to come. Camaros, Chargers, GTOs, and Firebirds all tried to pack as much punch under the hood as was possible.

Corvettes offered speed and sleek style, but they also had a high price tag. Most of the other high performance cars offered a price that was affordable to the average working class people.

The Aston Martin

The Aston Martin DBS was first introduced in 1967 as a GT (Grand Tourer) then upgraded in 1969 to include the powerful 5.3 litre engine.

The company was sold by David Brown in 1972 and went through a period of neglect with frequent change of ownership. In 1987 it was bought by Ford who invested heavily and rebuilt the design and research facilities and upgraded t he production plant in Oxfordshire. The pay off was the development of the DB7 which was shown at the 1993 Geneva motor show to great acclaim. In 1995 the company was in full production and by 2000 the company had regained the position amongst the world’s most prestigious cars.

The V12 Vanquish was unveiled in 2001 and the DB9 5.9 litre was launched in 2004.
In 2007 Aston Martin was purchased for £479 million (US$848 million) by two Kuwaiti investment companies in a deal led by David Richards of Prodrive. Ford retained a US$77 million stake in Aston Martin, setting the total value of the company at US$925 million.

A Brief History of Ferrari

A Brief History of Ferrari

The first Ferrari hit the roads more than 50 years ago in 1947. The first Ferrari 125 sport was not what you see today, but for the time it was a real looker. It featured a 1.5 liter V12 engine which made this car one of the fastest in the world. In addition, like all Ferrari’s this car had a great body to go along with the speed. Without this first Ferrari hitting the road in 1947, it is safe to say that they would not be where they are today in terms of the automotive industry.

Do you need to buy a performance car

High performance cars such as a Lamborghini that are built for speed are likely to be at the very top of the car insurance scale.
Acceleration and top speed are a major factor for insurers, as claims statistics show that high performance cars result in more frequent high car insurance claims.
The predictable cost of repairs to these finely tuned machines is also taken into account when calculating a policy. Making the buying and owning of a high-performance car an expensive business.
If you're considering buying a high-performance vehicle then you need to do some serious research into the car you're interested in. This should not only consider the purchase price but should also take into account the likely availability of parts, and the timescales and complexity of any repairs that might be needed.
Also consider the annual mileage that you are likely to accumulate. If you are only going to do a low mileage, rather than use it as an everyday vehicle, you could save yourself some money on your premium and also lower the risk for insurers.
On the other hand you might simply want to
hire a performance for the day and avoid any of these problems.

Drive a Lamborghini for £700

If you have ever seen a supercar drive by, you will have probably envied the driver and assumed that they were rich footballer, singer or entrepreneur. Why couldn't it be you?

You really could get behind the wheel of a Ferrari or Lamborghini and drive off into the sunset. If your dream is to experience driving the most exclusive sport cars, where and when your life requires, or your heart desires, then you may be surprised to know that that is easy to join the ranks of the super rich.

There are two basic ways of having access to the keys of a supercar, either a one-off hire or to join a specialised supercar club. In both cases, you are relieved of the burdens of outright ownership and so the depreciation, insurance, servicing and storage all cease to be of concern. Simply book your days and drive the cars away. You will be unsupervised and free to drive your lamborghini, Ferrari or Aston Martin to wherever you please.

Take your partner or friend on a drive that they will never forget! A Lamborghini Gallardo Roadster accelerates from 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 195 mph. Hiring a supercar will provide you with unlimited smiles per hour and that's a promise!

The price of hiring a supercar varies depending upon the car, for example a Maserati Quattroporte can be hired from £200 per day whereas a Lamborghini Gallardo Roadstar can be yours for £700 per day. In addition to the hire charge there is likely to be a significant deposit required, possibly of several thousand pounds, due to the high value of the cars.

As an alternative to hiring a car for one off period, it is possible to join a supercar club. Typically these clubs are exclusive members-only Clubs that give you access to some of the world’s most desirable and sought-after models. Join a club and you can enjoy up to a preset number of days, for instance 60, driving an extensive range of high-performance SuperCars, including the elusive Pagani Zonda F Roadster and the exhilarating Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder.

The membership to a club like this is in the range of £7,950 for an annual membership, but this can normally be split into low cost payment terms from as little as £765 per month.

The age limit for both hiring and joining clubs varies but is not normally less than 25 years old and sometimes as high as 30 years old. Yow will probably have to have held a UK driving license for at least five years, have at least 3yrs no claim bonus and be able to demonstrate prior experience of driving performance cars. As an alternative to the experience it may be necessary to attend a one day performance diving course. This could be as much fun as hiring the car!

A third method of experiencing a super car is in the form of a gift voucher. When is your next birthday? If you are not going to get a £250,000 gift wrapped supercar, perhaps you could try one out for a day!
